At Cameron Ocean Adventures we offer a unique west coast bear watching experience. Although we focus on seeing beers, we also make every effort to encounter the many other iconic species that reside in the ocean or near the waters edge. Our tour is approximately 3.5 hours of exploring, learning and immersion in the untouched nature that our coast has to offer.
During the summer the abundance of wild berries are a perfect feast for the areas bears. In the fall the banquet of salmon making the migration to fresh water rivers and streams that stripe the coast see the bears lumber to the shoreline and river banks to feed on the fatty bounty of wild salmon. Seals, porpoises, wolves and eagles that make the Ucluelet area their home also get in on the feast and are likely to be seen.

Bear Watching Tours - Duration and Location
Cameron Ocean Adventures bear watching tours are approximately 3.5 hours in length. The tour includes various points of interest within the protected waters of Barkley Sound, and other wildlife areas we'll visit on the way. While viewing bears and other wildlife, the vessel will be positioned to provide some excellent photo opportunities.
Please bring the following items for a successful day on the water:
Light jacket to stay warm
Pants or trousers to keep warm
Comfortable shoes with enclosed toes
Waterproof bag for your belongings
Water and snacks
Binoculars if you have some
While we make every attempt to locate whales, we can not guarantee 100% that whales will be spotted. However, the likelihood of seeing whales on our whale watching tours is very high, as Ucluelet is one of the most densely populated areas on Vancouver Island for marine life. We do our best in every way to make sure you have a fun and successful whale watching experience.
Can anyone go on your trips?
Yes, most can go on whale watching tours. All ages from babies, young children, adults, and seniors are welcome. We do recommend caution to pregnant women and/or people with injuries/disabilities particularly with back/neck problems as the movement of the boat may cause injury. The captain will have final decision before departure.
Are there bathrooms on the boat?
Yes there are bathroom facilities. It's advised to use restroom facilities prior to boarding.
Can we hear whales?
Yes, if our boat is close enough to the whales you can hear them breath as they come up for air.
How do you locate whales?
Locating whales is a combination of distant whale spout sightings, spotting information shared by other boats and by understanding the behaviour and migratory routes of whales in the area.
Guests are advised to dress warmly for their tour. Wear pants or trousers, and bring a sweatshirt. Please bring a jacket to protect against the wind. Even on a warm sunny day on land, it can be much cooler out on the water. We recommend that you wear comfortable shoes with an enclosed toe for walking around the boat.
What's the best time of day to see whales?
There is no best time to view whales as they can appear at any time.
What happens if I get sea sick?
Local pharmacies sell a range of medications and herbal remedies for use before travel that might help you manage your symptoms. If you do start to feel seasick onboard, we recommend that you seat yourself at the back of the boat and watch the horizon. We will make every effort to ensure the boat journey is as smooth as possible, however we cannot guarantee smoothness of ride due to the changeable nature of waves and weather conditions.
